Gold Coast Australia!
If it’s not one thing it’s another.
We landed on the Gold Coast to cloudy, blue skies and lots of wind. After collecting our
luggage and calling Uber, we were on our way to the beautiful Hilton Hotel on Surfer's Paradise. When we were checking in, Denny realized he
didn’t have his computer case that had his passport and credit cards in it.
Yep! We panicked. We called the Uber driver and it wasn’t in the car, so we called the airport and reported that if it was there we had no idea where we may have left it. They got the security people on it immediately and to our amazement maybe 45 minutes later we got a phone call saying they had it.

Nehemiah, our Uber driver called about that time to see if we found it and
offered to go back to the airport and pick it up and bring it to us. We paid him handsomely
and also took him to dinner with us. I mean really, when was the last time you
became good friends with your Uber driver? Nehemiah is Maori (the Maori are the indigenous Polynesian people from New Zealand.) He was very helpful and a lot of fun. We now call him friend.
The next day we went to the Currumbin
Wildlife Park, where we saw koalas and kangaroos, crocodiles and wallabies and a lot of other wildlife.
That afternoon we took a cruise around
the harbor. It reminded me a lot of Newport Beach in California with
the sailboats and beautiful homes. The highlight though of the cruise for Denny
and I was meeting a lovely couple from Ireland. One of the best things about
traveling is the people you meet along the way.
The next morning we were sad to be
leaving the beautiful Gold Coast but we packed up, and headed to the airport. Nehemiah picked us up early so since we had some extra time, he took us
by one of the most beautiful beaches, "Burleigh Head." It was warming up to be in the high 70’s and there were
a lot of surfers in the water.
There we were sitting at the gate
waiting for our flight to Melbourne, talking about how “Burleigh Head” was such
a wonderful ending to our time on the Gold Coast, when over the loud speaker came
a voice asking that everything stop for a minute, that there be a moment of
silence.
Trumpets began to play, and “The Day
of Remembrance” was honored. It was 11:00 on 11-11 “Veteran’s Day.”
Just when we thought "Burleigh Head" was
the icing on the cake, we all agreed ~
if it’s not one thing it’s another.
